During the Leopoldplatz residency, I painted the series of paintings “Encounter paintings.” The paintings describe the encounter of two gazes and the resulting change in perspective. In this portrait series, people recognize each other. Painting thus becomes an exchange at eye level, creating a new view of the square. I portrayed twenty people directly on Leopoldplatz with watercolor. I drew the outlines on transparent organza silk. The people being painted watched from the other side. They saw how their image was created. Later, I finished the paintings in my studio from the template of a watercolor drawing.
